The August 1982 Byte (p. 57 -- the "Logo" issue) had a construction article on building a sprite card for the Apple ][ based on the TMS9918A. That's probably what you're thinking of. --david

From: Yekta Gursel <YEKTA@mit-mc> The Logo issue of Byte has that circuit. It is in "Ciarcia's Circuit Cellar" series of articles. If you are interested in building that circuit I highly recommend that you get the data book( Yes, it is a full book ) on TMS9918A from Texas Instruments. The chip has so many options, and things to set to get them, you'll be lost without the book. I have built the circuit ( it runs on my AIM-65 ), and it is fantastic! 9918A does everything you want in a 256x192 display and very easy to use. It takes 2 bytes of address space if your IO is memory mapped and everything is done by writing into the (two) registers of the chip. Good luck! Let me know if you have any trouble in bulding it.
