[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Changing LaserWriter Driver Default to B&W

dhoerl@cbnewsm.att.com (david.f.hoerl) (02/14/91)

Aggrevation with the color default has has been voiced several times
on the Net. Here's the fix (I saw it first in MacWeek, of late in the
March MacUser, which credits Paul Cozza):

1) beg, borrow, or buy ResEdit if you don't have it.
2) make a copy of the "LaserWriter" file in your System folder
and save it (in case you make a mistake below).
3) Using ResEdit, open LaserWriter, and edit the PDEF ID=4 resource
4) Use hex search to find the series of bytes "377C001700047801".
5) Replace it with the bytes ................."377C001800047801".
(Note the one changed value) ^
6) Save the file, quit ResEdit, and you're ready to go black&white.
