[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Version Control Programs

nilesinc@well.sf.ca.us (Avi Rappoport) (02/24/91)

Has anyone used Versionary or Version Master? They are new version control
programs announced in MacWeek. Versionary on Jan. 29, p. 6, is network
oriented, from Sitka and VersionMaster (Feb. 5, p.5) is from AaStar
Technologies.

Will they fill the gap for us THINK users? Anyone?

Sorry to differ, but plain old simple RCS beats the pants off of
Projector! The fact that my Projector DB grows exponentially is
aggrevating enough, but the limitations on not being able to delete
certain revisions are really pissing me off!

There are some really nice features. The revision compare is very
nice, and easier than any other I've used. The CheckIn and CheckOut
facilities are really nice, with a few minor complaints.

Unfortunately, these niceties do not come close to making up for the
fact that I have a 13 Megabyte ProjectorDB!!!!!! And why couldn't
they follow the RCS paradigm and put the Projector files in a folder
and have one file per source file? This would greatly improve the
product (I have over a dozen scripts that process RCS files). One
huge file for all the sources is really inefficient.
