It was said by a fellow from Fortune that (naturally) their system was the best. Now I agree that the Fortune is one of the best buys in a 68000 workstation right now, in terms of price and performance, but the reason I DIDN'T buy one was because of the "Full Unix" issue. The impression I got is that they have split Unix up into all sorts of little packages, each priced seperately. cc for $500 here. nroff for more. multi-user for more. uucp for more. tools for more. etc. To get full unix you had to pay a real bundle, and the Fortune (for a developer) no longer became the buy I thought it was. If fortune drops this policy, that would be great. (They also have rediculous price gaps between disk sizes. Back when they still sold a 5 meg unit, the Canadian price was $9999 for 5 megs and $13,000 for 10. At the time, you could buy a complete 40 meg disk for $3,000, and most disk manufacturers offered only a $500 to $1000 increment for the extra platter. -- Brad Templeton - Waterloo, Ontario (519) 886-7304
