I am presently scouting for a 68000-based system to run CAI for
law students under UN*X. We presently have an educational source
license for System III, and are running v7 on an 11/23. The system
I'm looking for will support 16 ports, possibly more, though the
requirements aren't cpu-intensive.
Is source code available (at deep discount rates, of course) for any
of the 68000 systems on the market, as long as you have the AT&T
license? I have found, both over the years at U of Toronto, and
presently at the Law Society, that having the source is tremendously
handy for various things:
- finding out what a utility REALLY does
- hacking the utility to do what I want
- hacking the kernel to do what I want (somewhat rarer)
- hacking C library routines
- borrowing algorithms from system source
I'd love to keep this capability on the new system. Of course I
can always keep the Bell v7 source on line, but it won't quite be
the same as what's running.
Anybody know of a source to source?!
