Does anyone out there have any information on Apple work-alikes other than the Franklin ?

#R:houca:-42700::31500002:000:517 !bob Dec 8 10:02:00 1983 I recently bought a ZEUS 2001 from DIscount Computers in Orlando. It seems to run all software that runs on an Apple. It comes with a Z-80 card (not included by some other distributors) and a smart keyboard. The ROM does not support lower case, but a simple replacement fixes that. There is an inversion between upper and lower case alphabetic characters. This seems to be common with Asian clones, but again is correctable if desired with a little EPROM work. R.L. From: Jerry Sweet <jsweet.uci-750a@rand-relay> In addition to Franklin, Bell & Howell makes an Apple fake-alike, under license from Apple. Also, there's some strange company called "Synergistics" (or some such variation on the word "Synergy") that makes one. The Basis-108 (pronounced "BAH-sis") is another one, containing a Z80 processor in addition to the 6502. Those are all the names I know of off the top of my head. Numerous counterfeit Apples are available in Southeast Asia, Hong-Kong, and Taiwan, but these don't come into the country legally, and are seized when they're spotted, although I am informed by those in the know that customs officials can't or don't recognize counterfeit bare motherboards. --Jerry
