I have written a DA and am trying to take advantage of a few things in Sys7 but don't have IM VI. Two basic questions: 1) DA's can now have desktop ICONs like applications and I heard it can be done in the same way as applications. I looked at DA's that come with Sys7 and attempted to the same but not having any luck. As in a application, I created a FREF, BNDL, and ICN# for the desktop icons and used -16000 as the base ID. The DA's that come with Sys7 do the same and work fine but I am not able to do the same. I did rebuild the desktop and tried copying it to a floppy but the desktop icon isn't appearing. Is there more to it in DA's for Sys7? 2) DA's are suppose to run under their own application heap rather than in the system heap. Looking at 'About This Macintosh', the heap for a DA is always 16k and never expands. Is the memory allocation coming from the MF available memory? If so, doesn't this make DA's superior to an application in the sense that a preset SIZE isn't necessary? BTW, I tried using a SIZE resource in a DA but it is ignored. Anyone have IM VI that describes this stuff? Nevertheless, my DA runs extremely well under Sys7 <wide grin>. moof moof, Bob Daniel rad@genco.uucp
