[comp.sys.mac.programmer] NewsView, 1.0d5 available

urlichs@ira.uka.de (Matthias Urlichs) (03/19/91)

A new version of my NewsView news reader is now available for FTP from
iraun1.ira.uka.de, in directory /pub/mac. Currently it's 1.0d5.

This version still can't post articles, and has problems:
missing features, too many list redraws, and certainly some lingering bugs.
However, I'm reading NetNews with it already...

Please read the README.NewsView file before downloading NewsView.

Matthias,

I loved your first version. One time when I selected Quit from the file
menu it said something like "Can not complete request do to program error."
I thought that was pretty funny. But overall I like the concept. Keep up
the good work.

That's a standard MacApp error message. The "Cannot complete your request"
is the default if MacApp doesn't have a description of the operation that
failed, and the "due to a program error." is the default if it doesn't have
an explanation of the error code.

What all of the above means, therefore, is that I'll have to sit down the
next weekend and get the error reporting stuff right. (I knew it...)

BTW, 1.0d6 is available now; it fixes the ever-present "Hell, is that piece
of code really in an unlocked segment?" bug. Here it applies to my MacTCP
notification procedure. (That one is a great way to make the CommandShell
crash with a "Can't load that segment" bomb. :-( FYI, the CommandShell is
something that runs under A/UX and doesn't have any segments, being an A/UX
program.)
