We need a second drive for our Apple //e and would like some
opinions on the various Apple compatible disk drives. I
have always been satisfied with the performance of Apple's
drives, but am considering other drives because of size,
storage capacity or price advantages. We would be
interested in your comments or suggestions about the various
brands. In particular we would like to hear about drive
reliability and read/write error rates. We would also like
to know whether the disk can use the standard Apple disk
controller card and standard DOS 3.3. If a modified DOS is
necessary, how difficult is it to install the patches? (The
modified DOS question may apply to some of the high capacity
disks now available.) Specific brands we have heard about
include Rana, Micro-Sci, Concorde, and the new Amdek micro
drives. Are there other brands which we should consider?
Responses can be mailed to me or posted to the net.
(Perhaps this can start some discussions about Apple
compatible hardware experiences and advice.) Thanks!
