[comp.sys.mac.programmer] PMMU instructions needed for 32+bit clean SE/30

hp48sx@wuarchive.wustl.edu (HP48SX Archive Maintainer) (04/22/91)

I am currently trying to mae an INIT that will allow me to boot from an
IIsi ROM which I will copy into RAM on my SE/30. The SE/30 runs quite
well with the IIsi ROM.

The problem I have now is, that THINK C 4.0.4 does not seem to like
compiling the PMOVE assembler instruction. Is there anybody who can
supply me with the bit-field structure of this instruction, and possible
the other PMMU instructions as well. They are not listewd in the
Motorola 68030 handbook :^(

BTW: Is the IIsi ROM part of the system software ? So that I can
distribute it to all non-32-bit-blean ROM users as an upgrade they can
have ? I am not doiung anythingillegal by now. I do not modify Apple's
code, just write an INIT.

As far as I know, the ROM is NOT part of the System Software, Apple would
not take kindly to its distribution.

But, if you do release such an INIT, you will have the eternal gratitude
of thousands of us fellow SE/30 owners.

I think it might be good to note here that Povl's INIT was going to copy
the IIsi ROM _FROM THE CHIPS_ into RAM. That'd mean you had to have a
IIsi ROM to start with.

If the intent is to distribute this 512K+ ROM INIT, then yes, methinks
Apple legal would have a bit of a cow. See the recent events in
comp.sys.mac.misc re:SE/30 ROM updates mailing list for a better way to
convince Apple that this is what we want :-)
