How can people flame about a natural language newsgroup, when the primary function of this network is to support group discussions on interesting subjects? Nobody griped about net.scuba. Why should something which is closer to the thing we all have in common, computers, be controversial? Those who are complaining about the proliferation of groups seem to have length of the .ngfile as their only legitimate concern. But language is not a trivial subject. If some of us wish to discuss it, or to speak among ourselves in another language, this is certainly reasonable use of the medium. And if a site really doesn't want to deal with the newsgroup, the administrator can easily refuse it. As far as worrying about what would be discussed, why not just subscribe and find out? Evidently, there *is* enough interest floating around to warrant the group. Let's parler francais, or italiano, or Deutche! -Daniel Elbaum {duke, teklabs}!reed!elbaum
