[comp.sys.mac.programmer] TMON Pro vs VersaTerm, or: crashing the debugger. Help!

gft_robert@gsbacd.uchicago.edu (opcode ranger) (05/22/91)

I just got TMON Pro and although it look pretty neat, I've already discovered
one (repeatable) situation in which the debugger itself gets hosed by a
commercial program. I'm sure I'm just missing the obvious, but although I've
looked in the manual, I can't figure it out.

The problem is when I enter the monitor while running VersaTerm (4.1). I just
did this by chance at one point, and got a crash. This is what happens: Start
Versaterm 4.1. Enter TMON (either thru TMON FKEY or thru physical prog
switch). Get message "exception vectors change". Try to enter TMON thru TMON
FKEY. No dice. Screen is frozen at this point, although mouse moves. Enter
thru prog's switch. Get message that "Monitor damaged". Crashola. I can
exit to shell at that point.

Probably some interaction between TMON Pro and access to the serial port? I
dunno, but would welcome advice. I'm enclosing a portion of the official ICOM
problem report at the end of this note, so you can get a better idea of my
setup. If we can't figure it out, I'll forward it on to ICOM. Thanks!

(P.S.: in general, how often should one expect to see the msg "exception
vectors changed"? I know that it happens on first entering the monitor under
MF (i.e. the first time after boot), but it seems to happen often with me).

Robert
