[comp.sys.mac.programmer] couple System 7.0 related questions

lance@hermix.UUCP (Lance Ellinghouse) (05/23/91)

does anyone have or know of a version of macps that works with
the System 7.0 LaserWriter drivers?

does anyone know of a way to make the System 7.0 LaserWriter drivers
print to the serial port instead of AppleTalk?

I would like to have macps running on our unix machine and filter
things comming from the Mac...

Thanks,

You should just need to update your set of prep-files, using the prepfix
program that came with macps (and editting the macps control file to know about
the additional prep file). I've done this on my NeXT machine, and I can
display system7-generated postscript files on my display.

Both my Mac and my NeXT send their printouts to a Sun machine for actual
printing though, and that has not been updated to handle 7.0 outputs (not here
at RPI, that is). I expect that requires some updates to the CAP software and
maybe reinitializing the laserwriters that are hanging off the Sun print
spoolers. Macps itself seems to work okay though.
