[comp.sys.mac.programmer] #$^%&*#%ing Motorola manuals

ldo@waikato.ac.nz (Lawrence D'Oliveiro, Waikato University) (05/27/91)

This is a flame against Motorola's documentation department and their
#%$%ing 68xxx manuals.

Did you know that Motorola have brought out new editions of their
680x0 manuals, which no longer have information about the instruction
sets in them? Instead, this has been compiled into a new manual, the
"68000 Family Programmer's Reference".

All well and good, except that a) the change happened without any
warning, and b) APDA have no knowledge of the new manual.

A friend of mine has been trying to get hold of the instruction set
information for an assignment he's doing. First he ordered the 68030
manual (on my recommendation), and was unpleasantly surprised to
receive a newer, thinner edition than the one I previously got. An
exchange of faxes with APDA led us to believe that they still had the
3rd edition of the 68020 manual, which has the instruction set
information in it. A copy arrives this afternoon, and guess what?
It's the *fourth* edition now, and there's no instruction set
information in it!

To their credit, APDA have been giving us absolutely amazing service
recently (my last order arrived just three days after I faxed it--and
over a weekend, yet!), which is why I'm more inclined to blame
Motorola for the screwup. I can just see APDA hiring someone to
check out every new edition of every product they receive, just
in case the vendor pulls a fast one like this...
