From what I've read in the technical notes and observed on my aging Mac 512Ke, it appears that as recently as System 6.0.7 the non-ADB keyboard machines did not map the keyboard with KCHR. Instead, the original keyboard translation code (INIT 1 and INIT 2) was used to translate the keycodes into character codes. The Control Panel gives only two choices for keyboard mapping: domestic and international. Did this change in System 7.0 for the MacPlus? Are keyboard events mapped into character codes according to a KCHR resource? If not, how does the Script Manager cope with its inability to remap the keyboard when the current script is changed? -- John Bruner Center for Supercomputing R&D, University of Illinois bruner@csrd.uiuc.edu (217) 244-4476
