I've just found out that the SndStartFilePlay call for playing asynchronous sound, which works for both AIFF files and resources, doesn't quite work like SndPlay on a resource. When you call SndStartFilePlay on a resource, it looks for the first soundCmd or bufferCmd, and plays the sound data attached to that. That's all. Contrast this with SndPlay, which plays the full set of sound commands in the sound resource. Just thought I'd let people know. I don't think there's any mention of this difference in Inside Mac Vol VI.
