Can anyone recommend any toolkits (e.g. source or object code libraries) for implementing on-line help in an application. The perfect solution would be one that understood Microsoft Word files (or RTF) so that I could use the actual manual complete with all of its formatting. I'd at least like something with support for a simple table of contents or index and mixing PICTS with text. I'm interested in commercial, shareware or public domain toolkits. I've heard of two possible solutions, but don't have any details about them. One is a commercial product called DeskTop Help that is frequently advertised in the front of MacTutor. Has anyone used it? The second was published in an article in MacTutor sometime in the past year or so. Does anyone have the source code from it that they could binhex and email to me? Any other info would be appreciated. Blake. (bdw@cs.cmu.edu)

You could try DOCMaker (shareware). It'll allow you to use formatted text and a few graphics per document. You may want something that can handle more data, though. You could probably ask the author about that. --

I believe Aladdin (publishers of StuffIt Classic/Deluxe) have an licensable
on-line toolkit called "On-Line Toolkit", it seems quite powerful, as it can
incorporate sound, text, popups, buttons, and an index menu. To get more info
on this check out StuffIt Classic 1.6 that's distributed over the net (sumex,
mac.archive, etc...) under the apple (On-line help...)
Oh, incidently, cost is a big unknown. Please update us on what you find.
