[comp.sys.mac.programmer] GCC

plogan@mentorg.com (Patrick Logan) (02/07/91)

Could someone send me the network location and file path name to the
GCC compiler for the Mac? I don't have ftp, but uunet will ftp it for
me if I give them the explicit info.

Thanks.

Also, I missed out on the News that went around awhile ago. If someone
has a useful blurb describing the Mac GCC, could you send it to me?
I'm looking for answers to questions like:

* How much disk/RAM/CPU is needed to even think of using it?

* How much disk/RAM/CPU is needed to avoid losing one's sanity while
  waiting on a compile?

* Is the MPW environment (linker, assembler, etc.) needed to use GCC?

* Is MPW C needed to make/bootstrap GCC or is there a binary in the
  distribution?

* Does Mac GCC provide full or any access to the Mac Toolbox? (I.e.
can it be used as the sole compiler to make a Mac application?)

Thanks again.

My apologies if this is a re-post, but I don't believe that this
got out of out news system last time I attempted posting it.

How does GCC code compare with Think and MPW (Pascal and C)?
Does it work under MPW 3.2/System 7.0?
Does it have its own headers or does it use MPW C's?
If it has its own, can System 7.0 features be used from the present headers?
Is it source code compatible with MPW C?

Thanks! Just looking for the silverlining in the clouds of MPW code :-) I'm
considering downloading gcc and recompiling my finished source code with it
for better code.
