[comp.sources.games.bugs] CONQUER Problems/features/bugs ???

lmurray@wdl1.UUCP (Lance Murray) (02/12/88)

I've got an interesting problem/feature/bug with CONQUER. Any of my armies
above #32 never initiate battle by themselves. By this I mean, suppose
army #45 moves onto a space owned by NPC #1. The space has a large population,
but no military support. I am currently at war with NPC #1 (seems like I'm
always at war with someone ;~). But during the update phase, army #45 is
not updated (ie, does NOT enter battle, or take the sector!) The population
in the sector is not reduced either! I modified combat.c to replace
the hard coded "32" values to MAXARMY (50), but no difference.

Has anyone else had this problem?

As a side note, how about those rebels? I got hit by them once (argh ... ).
I also had a CONFEDERACY country next to me have rebels TWICE!. Suddenly,
I was being invaded from my "protected" side.

What's the largest single army anyone has had? I got pounced upon by an NPC
army of 16,000+ ! Seems the NPC was surrounded by water, and only had one
sector to protect. It had THE_VOID power, so I couldn't tell the size of the
army, but I thought the country looked ripe for CONQUER'ing (teehee ..). I
moved my sizeable army (2000+) into the area, only to get munched. Of course
my diplomatic status went into JIHAD mode (I was still neutral, of course :)

I believe so. I have no ideas for a fix, or even where the problem
is. In a related note, does ATTACK mode work? What is it supposed
to do?

In one game, I got rebels 3 times and another disaster in 4 straight
turns. Fairly annoying. I haven't decided yet whether or not the
frequency and intensity of "random happenings" is appropriate or not.

I hate it when that happens...
