[comp.sources.games.bugs] omega run problem

We seem to be having a basic omega bug here.  After downloading the sources,
we recompiled them for our machine (ATT 3B2) but, if we try to run it, we get
a --> bus error - core dumped
message.  Does anyone know whether it is due to (1) our dimness, (2) some
inherent problems in the 3B2, (3) some minibug that was fixed long ago, (4)
others?

Any response will be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem here and have recently given up on the critter.
It seems that omega wants to allocate more ram than is available on 
a 2 meg 3b2.  I seems that it might run with 4 meg.  If these 
assumptions are wrong please post the real reason and a fix.

Yes, OMEGA tries to allocate 3.6M of RAM when it starts up (gack!).

Fortunately, our poor little '386 Xenix system doesn't mind, it has lots and
lots of virtual space.

BUT -- running is another story.  The game locks up or dumps core (it SAYS
it's gonna dump it, but doesn't actually do it) all the time, and is nearly
unplayable due to it.  The crashes seem to have to do with interaction with
other critters and/or objects, but are impossible to reproduce accurately
(ie: one time you'll blow up doing something, next time not).

I don't play anymore -- it's damn frustrating to spend a couple of hours
figuring out the town level, find a staircase, go down, hit a couple of
creatures and then lose your work with a big *boom*!

It's here, but dormant, and will probably be removed due to lack of use.
