[comp.sources.games.bugs] Wanderer

Whoops. In my last posting of Wanderer version 2M the README file
referred to a wand.info file which did not, in fact, exists. To get
information on how to play the game press '?' during the game.

  Sorry about any confusion.

Wanderer is truly a wonderful game, requiring good strategic skills. Quite
frankly, I find the set of Hack/Larn/Moria games quite boring. Kudos to
the author for having come up with this game!

I have a little question. What are the " (double-quote) symbols supposed
to represent? The help command does not mention it, and I seem to be unable
to do anything about it. I've been assuming it's a boulder-type thing,
but such objects make some levels impossible to clear.

Thank you.

I noticed! :-) The help provided by '?', however, makes no mention of the
NEWKEYS environment variable... Which it turns out should be defined like
this (if you want to change the keys):

setenv NEWKEYS udlr

Where you replace 'udlr' with the up, down, left, and right characters.

The rest of the documentation was fine... :-) Good work, I like the game
a lot!

Thank you Steve for lowering my productivity for a week. However, I have
a problem with screen 16. Apart from not being able to get at one of the
treasures, I have two traps but only one small monster. Is my copy of the
screen corrupt?

Would someone please mail me instructions or clues as to how to complete
this level (and level 13 too).

I too am very pleased with the game (Although I have difficulty
getting through more than 2 levels, I'd hate to try and _make_ one).

I have one suggestion though: Once you get familiar with the
smaller object representations that you get with the full map,
it would be great to be able to play the game while looking
at the full map. The I/O would be greatly reduced (it'd be
reasonable at 1200 baud), and you can see all around you without
the really obnoxious screen shifting. I've been wanting to do
this myself ... along with about 100 other items on my things-to-do
list.

Several people have brought it to my attention that this is
already an option. I admit I didn't pay much attention to the
documentation and missed the -f option. My humble apologies.
(still wish I could flop back and forth... :-) )

   Mr. Shipley,

My mail keeps bouncing so I can't write you. I've got Wanderer running
on the sun 3/50 cluster at USC. Its a REALLY great game. Good work!

However, if you are running the map mode (wanderer -f) yor screen is
killed, because it is replaced with a non-map mode drawing.

I also imagine that is a system message comes through, my screen will get
fried. I suggest you add a "re-draw screen" option.

       Thanx for the neat-oh game

I just read that a New version of wanderer has been released.
Version 2.2 I believe.... My problem is I never had the original
to apply the diffs to.... Now, whereas I may believe the author
exists, may mailer denies the existance of his machine....
If the author reads this group would it be possible to have a repost
the working version. Or better yet is there an accessible
FTP site where wnaderer is archived?????

Thanks a lot,
Ben Herman

I seem to have missed it here, also. A repost would be appreciated.

A quick amendment to the credits file as posted in the last screen
package. Screen 34 was designed by David Goodenough ( dg@lakart.uucp ). Please
make the necessary changes to the file.
