[comp.sources.games.bugs] moria, PC-Moria graphic adventure game v4.873

Hello !

[This is an upload of an e-mail I sent to Don Kneller, the author
of Moria (letter with some minor editing). Until now, I didn't get
an answer, but it's just three days ago I posted the e-mail. I want
to hear from other Moria players wether they have the same problems]

I have downloaded the PC porting of MORIA, which I have played on
Ultrix yet. I installed it on the IBM AT in my Lab and on my private
IBM XT (yes, they're blue). It ran perfectly well on the AT (with
rawio and without ANSI and TERMCAP) but it didn't on the XT. I in-
stalled it correctly, removed the upgrader .EXE, READ.ME, CONFIG.DOC
and TERMCAP and started. Worked well. I saved my character and later I
wanted to play again. MORIA restored my character and immediately
after that, without a single keystroke, it saved it again and hung.
I rebooted (hard!) and restarted. Same symptoms. Reboot, ERASE
MORIA.SAV and restart. MORIA asked for character race, but when asking
for character sex, it hung. That's what it now always does.

It reinstalled MORIA (yes, the archive is correctly transmitted) and
this time, MORIA asked its questions, but when rerolling attributes,
it suddenly saved and hung.

It is *NOT* a TSR problem. I run PC-DOS 3.3. w/o TSRs.

I consider this to be a bug.

By the way, on my VAX running BSD I have installed MORIA 4.85. What's
the latest version for Ultrix and where can I get it?
It does have a bug, too: There is the comma used for both a mushroom
patch and food. Actually, I never saw FOOD, it's always been a
mushroom patch and it always was poisonous.

So long ...
