Have I missed something? Answers: you cant, yes you have. This confusion is caused by the large number of versions that wanderer has been ported to. Here, for your enjoyment :-), is the full list with compatibilities. Version 1: recogniseable because (a) it comes in 2 binaries and (b) it has no graphics. This is the first version, and many of the later screens wont work with it (eg no balloons). This was made obsolete by version 2.0, and good thing to since it was so bugfilled and convoluted. Version 1X: The X-windows compatible version 1. This is IDENTICAL to version 1 except that a few bugs are fixed and it works with x-windows graphics. There is no V2X since I havent access to X-Windows. This one comes in two binaries as well ( the game and the test program ) and used a #def to compile to the equivalent of version one. Version 2.0: Also called version 2M. This is the MSDOS compatible one, and has the builtin editor. It also comes in one binary only. This has no balloons. All the current set of screens except those with balloons will work with V2.0. Patches : These will convert V2.0 into version 2.2. You cant apply them to any other version. Version 2.2: This is what you get when you apply the patches to version 2.0. This has the balloons and ALL of the current set of screens are possible on this version. This should work with MSDOS but I cant make any guarentees. Version 2.3: This only exist on our site, but I thought Id let you know whats coming: Names for screens, a -v option to print version, and a 'memory' for the editor/developer to aid in screen development. Also setuserid will be used by the program, if you want. Amiga, Archimedes, and IBM ega-card ports and versions have also been made and the latter has been posted. There is also another IBM graphics version around somewhere, and the credits file mentions who has created all of these. On the whole, these are ports of Version 1. I hope that clears up some of the confusion. If you have version 1, I suggest you get version 2 from the archive sites. If you have V1X then you cant get hold of the new features until someone with X-Windows does the port for me. -Steve -----------------------------------------+------------------------------------ JANET: maujp@uk.ac.warwick.cu | "I wonder as I wander, out under ARPA: maujp@cu.warwick.ac.uk | the sky .. The "ega-wanderer" that was recently posted to comp.sources.games is a port of Version 2.2. In addition to working with various displays on PC's it is also backwards compatable with the Unix curses version. Thus, if you have (or can get) a copy of ega-wanderer you will have the latest "released" version. Ega-wanderer was posted without the screens, however, so you'll have to get them from the 'wand-screens' posting (2 parts). Seeing also as how 'ega-wanderer' is a superset of wanderer 2.2, it would seem to me to be the logical starting place for an updated X-windows port (and maybe even the released version of 2.3). -Bill Randle Moderator, comp.sources.games Tektronix, Inc. billr@saab.CNA.TEK.COM

I sent the ms-dos version of Wanderer to the operator of comp.binaries.ibm.pc last week. Look forward for it there.
