The complete NH3.0 sources should be available from any comp.sources.games archive site. This includes anon ftp from 'uunet.uu.net' (directory ~ftp/comp.sources.games/volume7/NetHack3), anon uucp access from 'saab' and several other sites. Some of you may have tried to get them earlier; all 38 parts are now verified to be in place on saab and uunet, I can't vouch for the other archive sites. -Bill Randle Moderator, comp.sources.games Tektronix, Inc. games@saab.CNA.TEK.COM -------------------------- ACCESSING THE COMP.SOURCES.GAMES ARCHIVE (last updated: June 28, 1989) Several sites below will send tapes through the mail. For those sites, send a 1/2" mag tape WITH RETURN POSTAGE and RETURN MAILER. Tapes without postage or mailer will not be returned. No other methods (COD, etc.) are available; please don't ask. 1. Rick Adams (rick@uunet.uu.net) provides archive access to those on the Internet. Access is available directly via anonymous ftp (Outside of 9am-7pm EDT M-F.) The files are in a directory comp.sources.games, then a sub-directory volumeX. They are named as closely as possible to the names in the Index. New stuff may be in the directory 'new', rather than the volumeX - check there also. 2. Mike Arms at Sandia will be archiving the articles. They can be a point of contact for those sites in New Mexico needing postings. Note though that they are NOT an ARPAnet site nor do they allow ad lib uucp connections. Those requesting archives should e-mail to Mike. Mike Arms {ucbvax | gatech}!unmvax!sandia!marms 3. Pyramid Technology has an archive arranged topically, and in compressed tar files. They are happy to take new UUCP connections. They are also somewhat willing to make tapes for people to come by and pick up, provided you call WELL in advance and bring lunch money. This is being managed by Claudia Dimmers and/or Carl Gutekunst. Contact pyramid!usenet for more info. 4. Jason Winters at host aeras in San Jose (sun!aeras!jason) has an online archive and has a directory setup for anon uucp. Contact Jason for more details. Jason Winters sun!aeras!jason (408) 432-1200 ext. 365 5. Bill Wisner at host killer (killer!archive-request) archives games sources (as well as comp.sources.unix and comp.sources.misc). To access the archive call +1 214 821 3795 (2400/1200 baud), login as uupdsrc with a password of Public (note the capital P), and retrieve /bbsys4/README. 6. Robert Elz (kre@munnari.OZ) keeps comp.sources.games in different ways depending on his available disk space; contact him for more info if you're an Australian site. 7. John Gilmore at host hoptoad keeps a full comp.sources.games archive, mostly for SF Bay area access. Don't ask me for things if you have to mail through uunet to get to hoptoad -- why send it through an extra hop? To get copies of archived stuff, mail to games-archive@toad.com, or: {sun,pacbell,pyramid,ucbvax,ucsfcgl,psivax,uunet}!hoptoad!games-archive Most requests we get are misplaced ones from the Internet or Europe. Look over the other archive sites -- there are closer archives. 8. Rex Jolliff at host otto can make 1600/6250bpi tar/cpio tapes, 1/4" cartrige tapes (either format) and VMS (1600/6250bpi) BACKUP format tapes (in a pinch, if they grovel..). We're connected to the ARPAnet via jvnc and our own imp, plus we are part of nysernet, a high-speed new york state network that has, among other members, cornell, rpi, suny-buffalo, and columbia. so we are probably a good choice! An anonymous ftp account has been setup on acf3.nyu.edu. I also have an 800/1600 bpi drive, plus tons of other equipment, so I can support tapes for 4.2 and 4.3, System V, etc. Gary J. Sharan Kalwani at the Michigan Cancer Foundation has a set of archives available for folks in this region (including comp.sources.unix, comp.sources.x and comp.sources.misc). We're not an internet site but have a Trailblazer so we will consider uucp connections and tapes. For more info contact SAAAA02@BLEKUL11.BITNET. 14. Of course, I have a complete set of archives. Archive access is now available from anonomous uucp. A sample L.sys entry might look like: saab Any ACU 1200 5039234494 in:-\r-in: ugames ssword: letmein (300 baud also works.) An index can be retreived with the command (examples only): uucp saab!/usr/spool/ftp/games-archive/Index /usr/spool/uucppublic/Index Individual game sources can be retreived with the command: uucp saab!/usr/spool/ftp/games-archive/gamename.Z /usr/spool/uucppublic/gamename.Z for single part games, or uucp saab!/usr/spool/ftp/games-archive/gamename/Partxx.Z /usr/spool/uucppublic/gamedir/Partxx.Z for multi-part games [or Patchx.Z]. All of the source files are compressed with 16-bit compression. If you have problems send me email and I'll look into it. I can also mail individual postings in a crunch and will send tapes (1600 or 6250 BPI tar). It costs about $5 to send a 2400' tape across the country in a padded envelope via first-class mail.
