[comp.sources.games.bugs] MIT Xconq?

mayer@quicksand.Eng.Sun.COM (Michael Mayer) (06/18/91)

I somehow managed to get Xconq 5.4 partly working on my SPARC 1+
under OpenWindows 2.0.
I was surprised to find a different Xconq than I remembered! The
grapbics consisted of colored circles and other boring type things. Now this
could well be because it was using a substitute font. But there were no
Ogres, special forces, etc... It was basically nothing like the Xconq I
remembered. Plus the screen didn't refresh and many other screwy things.
But again, this is probably due to my sloppy port.

I played a great version of xconq at MIT about 3-4 years ago. I do
remember someone pointing at a person and saying: "That's the guy who wrote
it." I only played it on monochrome monitors, but the graphics were really
slick. Every unit looked very different and was easily recognizable by it's
icon. It was by far the best computer game I ever played. What exactly
was I playing???

The Xconq5.4 had too many things in common to be a totally different
implementation. So somehow the two are related. Can anybody help?
