The Basser Department of Computer Science is seeking expres-
sions  of  interest  in several Senior Lecturer and Lecturer
positions (U.S.  Associate  Professor/Assistant  Professor).
These  are tenure-track positions in a Department of 30 plus
academic and 20 support staff with highpowered  workstations
and  file  servers,  MIPS minicomputers, X-Windows and ACSII
terminals and personal computers  plus  several  specialised
laboratories for teaching and research.

We have strong interests in research and teaching, and links
with  the  Information Technology industry.  Lecturing staff
may undertake approved consulting work.   Academic  salaries
currently attract market loadings.

Current major research areas are:
Artificial intelligence,  networks,  distributed  algorithms
and many aspects of the theory of computer science.

Applicants from any area of Computer  Science  are  invited,
but  those  with teaching interests in Software Engineering,
Operating Systems and Computer Graphics  would  be  particu-
larly  welcome.   Applicants  should  normally hold doctoral
qualifications.

Market  Loadings:   Academic  salaries  in  the   Department
currently   attract   a   market   loading.    Although  the
continuation of market loadings cannot be guaranteed,  load-
ings  now  being paid are $11,436 p.a. for a Senior Lecturer
and $9,286 p.a. for a Lecturer.

Current Salary Packages (including Market Loadings):
Senior Lecturer:  $(Aust.) 55,420 to $62,451 p.a.
Lecturer:  $(Aust.) 42,449 to $52,382 p.a.

          Applicants should have an Honours degree or equivalent qual-
          ification  in  Computer  Science.   Experience in any of the
          areas of Communications and Networks, Compiler Construction,
          Computer   Architecture,   Database   Systems  and  Software
          Engineering would be an advantage.   Appointees  engaged  in
          research  will be given reasonable time off their duties for

          ing in addition to the above.  Although the continuation  of
          market  loadings cannot be guaranteed, the loading now being
          paid is $7,985 per annum for a tutor.)
