The 1991 Monie A. Ferst Award and Medal will be presented to Manuel Blum on Friday, May 10, 1991 at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. The annual Award is the primary means that Sigma Xi, the scientific research society, honors nationally distinguished scientists (over all fields). A symposium in Dr. Blum's honor will be held on the Georgia Tech campus, to be followed by an awards banquet in the evening. The speakers at the symposium are four of the many prominent scientists that have been Dr. Blum's students. We would be delighted to have interested parties attend the symposium. Note that it is in the same week as this year's STOC meeting. Dana Angluin What have I learned about learning?
