Two friends of mine have the Olivetti ET121 with a parallel interface
board from a firm in Canada. They both were using Wordstar. Both
had overheating problems, but one was with the typewriter and the
other was with the IBM PC!

The Olivetti is generally a nice typewriter, but it does lack a
index key and the daisy wheels have been real expensive.

I have been checking out the CANON AP400. It has both an index key
and a reverse index key! It supports boldface, underline (several
types), sub- and super-, and PS (+ three pitches). I am trying to
get a test with Wordstar 3.3 before I buy since I have had experience
with Wordstar trapping nonstandard codes. CANON claims approx.
20 cps, but I think underline is a separate so it may be slower
than that. At $985 + $395(interface) + $175(tractor), it is not
cheap, but if one needs a high quality typewriter as well as a
printer, it could be a good deal. The main drawback seems to
be some nonstandard or noncommon aspects that means dependancy
on good local dealer support, and such things as ribbons and
wheels being more expensive.

NOTE: The Feb 6, '84 issue of Infoworld has a review on
the Toshiba P1350 that one should read before parting with
their money.
