From: Bart <SEARS.HP-LABS@rand-relay> I currently have an epson mx-80 but I am thinking of getting an epson fx-80 for the higher print speed and additional features. I have a serial to parallel board in the mx-80 with a 2K buffer. What I need to know is whether the serial to parallel board for the mx-80 will also work in the fx-80, or if I need to get a new serial to parallel converter. Note that the current converter plugs into a circuit board in the mx-80 so the innards of the two epsons must be similar. Bart -------

Will a parallel printer buffer mounted inside an MX-80 be good in an FX-80? Can the buffer be mounted between the s to p converter and the rest of the printer?

Having recently installed a serial interface (8148) in a FX80 I have my doubts has to whether or not the MX80 board would work. For one thing there is the physical configuration. The FX80 board mounts piggyback over the parallel port while the MX80 mounts to the side. May not be a problem but I have suspicions that the MX80 board may be backwards if put into the FX80. Sorry about my lack of certainty but I can't be more definitive having not actually tried to mount the MX80 serial board in the FX80. For the definitive answer have your local dealer call the Epson technical assistance number (they don't like talking to end users).
