[comp.music] Add-on Synth Boards for IBM PC

As the owner of an Ad-Lib card for almost two years now, I can say that I am
very happy with mine. When I got it, noone had even heard of it, and now
Sierra On-Line as well as other major software companies are supporting it,
you can even buy them at Radio Shack now.

The music entry system, although non-standard, is a real thing of beauty. I
highly recommend it.

As far as the quality of the sound from the card, I would rate it good but not
great. It uses FM synthesis. The result it that percussion sounds aren't
great and it doesn't have any really good low bass sounds. However, for in
home use and for composing it is just fine. Also, it really wows PC folks who
aren't used to hearing any decent sounds from a PC.

In short, if you want to use it for composing of playing around with, it's
great. However, if you want to do any serious performances or recordings, I
would recommend getting a midi setup.
