I posted a note about NoteWriter 1.0 and received no answer so I'm posting this again. Does anyone have an experience with the Passport program "NoteWriter" written by Keith Hamel at UBC? I'm looking at it as a possible alternative to SCORE for the IBM. I wonder how good it is at extracting parts, etc. More importantly, I'm looking for a copy of the old program to buy because NoteWriter II is now $500.00 and as a student working on his honors thesis, this is way out of my range. Does anyone know of where I can find a used copy of the first version (version 1.0) to buy, and whether it would be worth my while. Thanks Sean Varah, Stanford ****************************************************************************** "It's just full of blatant tonality" Sean Varah, AIR Stanford, cello@jessica.stanford.edu, (415) 723-5343 ******************************************************************************

dear Sean, I have no direct experience with Notewriter but considerable experience with SCORE. I teach at UBC, however and know Kieth Hamel so I am fairly int the picture about Notewriter. As far as I know, Notewriter does not extract parts but it does have some very useful and unique features. Personally I think SCORE is still the most complete scoring program available for any system but what you use will ultimately be determined by what you want to do. I have a desktop music pub. business and publish my own things as well so I need total versatility but perhaps your needs are more specific. If you have any questions about SCORE, please post a reply to this message and I would suggest writing to Kieth Hamel directly c/o the UBC School of Music. Alan Rinehart
