[comp.music] Digital communication formats and DAT

jk87377@tut.fi (Kouhia Juhana Krister) (12/30/89)

Hello!

I need information about digital communication formats:

   AES/EBU (via 9-pin D connector)

   SDIF (via 15-pin D connector)

   S/PDIF (via 1/4-inch jack)

Have these anything to do with DAT-recorders? Can I move my samples,
patches or songs to DAT by using digital communications with computer?

Any information, references or comments would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen on an AMPEX D2 digital video recorder an EBU European Broadcasting
Union digital audio in and out via a 25 pin RP125 standard connector. (Looks
like rs232 db 25 connector with slide locks). I also had access to the Ampex D2
spec, which included info about the digital audio on their machines. RP125 is a
SMPTE recommended practice which ONLY describes the hardware interface for a 8
to 10 bit 'ECL' logic parallel interface. Try calling Ampex Training Center in
Redwood City Calif. USA for info. (Soory I don't have the number...)
