I am in the market for a new sampler, and have investigated some of the current models available. For my price/performance needs/desires, I am looking at an Akai X7000. This, BTW, is the keyboard version of the S700 (so I am told). For those of you who may be wondering 'Why not get the S1000?' I don't want to spend the money for it (approx $5K), nor do I want to pay the approx. 2.5K for an S950, since the S900 has been discontinued. I currently have an Akai S612 with MD280 floppy drive, and it is/was a good place to start but I would like to have a sampler that allows mutliple samples in memory to choose from, multiple split points assignable to different samples, as well as the neat sampler out jack found on the Akai S612, S700, X7000, and S900. For those of you who don't know, this jack allows you to use the sampler's voices as a sound source with an Akai synthesizer or sound module giving you lot's of additional parameters to edit through the synth (yes, I also have an Akai AX73 professional series synth with a corresponding sampler in jack |-)). My questions are: - Does anyone out there own one of these things (X7000) ?? Do you like it ??? Have you observed any major inconvenient things about it ? - Does anyone know of any editor/librarians for the S612 or the X7000 (I think they may have similar sample dump formats ????) ?? I am particularly interested in sample editors for either/both. - Does anyone know of a good source of samples for these machines other than Akai ?? Send me e-mail replies, or post; I am pretty good at checking the net for new info, but e-mail is likely to get to me first. ----- Michael P.
