HELP! I'm a guitar player. Classically trained, I will admit, but a guitar player. I've also got an Atari ST, Alesis HR16, a Sequential 6 Track, a Yamaha FB01 and Notator for a sequencer. I've looked at guitar synthesizers, but they are just not in my current budget. My problem is that I really only want to use all of that MIDI gear to provide an orchestra to practice with, because I can't play keyboards, and I want to spend my technical training time on my guitar, not on learning a new instrument. When I decide to write a new piece for my guitar or to try to learn the basics of a new style of playing, I spend a *lot* of time using the keyboard on the Sequential to program up a score. Because I can't handle the keyboards, this comes at a very slow rate. Often, by the time I'm done with all of this stuff, I've lost whatever inspired me to start... My question is: what is available PD or commercial to apply music theory to sequencers. I would really rather type in something arcane like 4/4@120:arp/am7:4,arp/fm7:4,d,b,e,a:repeat_until_bored (which took about 12 seconds on the typer) than spend the several minutes it would take me to get that simple piece right from a synth keyboard. The other thing I'm looking for is good libraries of percussion style, as I've got a drum machine but don't know squat about percussion.... Thanks for any help. Please reply directly and if there is enough information I'll sumarize.
