Sometime in the mid-80's there was a research project at IRCAM where they made spectral measurements on every note of every instrument in the orchestra. I have never heard of any paper documenting this activity, but I'd think that IRCAM would've issued some kind of technical report. Does anybody know of such a paper? In general it would be nice if IRCAM's reports were more available in the USA. Even a list of what reports have been written would be nice!
