I have never heard of any paper documenting this activity, but I'd think that IRCAM would've issued some kind of technical report. Does anybody know of such a paper? In general it would be nice if IRCAM's reports were more available in the USA. Even a list of what reports have been written would be nice! Thanks for any help, Greg Sandell **************************************************************** * Greg Sandell (sandell@ils.nwu.edu) Evanston, IL * * Institute for the Learning Sciences, Northwestern University * **************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: 5 Jul 90 21:08:49 GMT From: Carey Richard Murphey <rich%brazos@edu.rice> Subject: need advice on choosing a typewritten notation To: music-research@prg Message-ID: <RICH.90Jul5160849@uncle-bens.Rice.edu> I am looking for an method of notating single voice music (lead sheets) using a computer keyboard as the method of entry. I know enough about music theory and programming, but nothing about desktop music publishing. Any references to well-known works on this topic would be greatly appreeciated. My object is to write a program which translates from this easy to type notation into the internal format of MuTeX. MuTeX is a free set of TeX language programs and fonts for typesetting single-staff music with one or two voices. MuTeX is availabe via anonymous ftp from: cs.ubc.ca 128.189.97.5 in /pub/src/MuTeX or stolaf.edu 130.71.128.1 in /pub" Thanks! -- Rich@Rice.edu ------------------------------ Date: 1 Jul 90 20:01:12 GMT From: holub@edu.berkeley.violet Subject: Need IMA address To: music-research@prg Message-ID: <1990Jul1.200112.12784@agate.berkeley.edu> I need a copy of the official MIDI standard, but the IMA seems to have moved from the address that I do have. How can I use PAN? To: music-research@prg Message-ID: <18854@well.sf.ca.us> PAN is a commercial BBoard service for the music industry. It is a good place to communicate with music companies, musicians, and lots of MIDI programmers from all over the world. They have been trying to get more music research people on PAN but haven't had much success. The international representation on PAN is pretty amazing, with people dialing in from Austraila, France, Germany, England, etc. There is also an extensive tour support service, which many touring bands use to stay in touch with themselves and the home office. It is NOT the "Performing Arts Network", according to its founder, Perry Leopold. Just call it PAN. You may not have heard of it, but they've heard of you! (I've been uploading comp.music onto PAN for several months.) It can be reached through Tymnet and Telenet just like compuserve, and costs about the same: $24/hour 8AM-6PM, $12/hour 6PM-8AM. (There is a one time sign up fee of $150 in most cases, which is waived under some cases. I know that Opcode gives away a fee waiver with purchase of their products.) For more information call (215) 584-0300, or write PAN at P.O. Box 162, Skippack, PA 19474. Disclaimer: I worked for Perry writing an automated Hypercard front end for PAN. It acts as a remote control information agent so that you spend no time online using arcane editors and commands, and all of your time downloading, reading, and replying to messages through effecient hypercard stacks. Perry also has a version for PC's which is functionally identical, but uses a text interface. (It works pretty good too, which is something coming from a Mac-a-holic) Of course, if you *want* to read the entire 50 page manual and fill your brain with the details of how to use their one-of-a-kind editor and message system, go right ahead. -- Oishii Ichigo | "Unhappy?
