Didn't plan on furthering this discussion, but a couple of interesting things happened. I had called Byte on the 24th about my missing issue, and they promised to send me one. Well, Saturday, the 4th, I received the one they mailed, as well as the original. Aside from being ironic, what was interesting was that they did not have the same cover. There was text on one describing some of the inside articles that was not on the other. I can only assume that this means that they have different "versions" for subscription and for retail sale. One other thing, the reason that magazines usually appear on the stands before they appear in the mail is that they both leave the printers at the same time. Subscription copies obviously go out in the mail, but retail copies are normally shipped (either by freight or UPS) to distributors, who then truck them to the outlets. This is much more efficient than the mail, and hence the magazines arrive in a shorter time. -- eric ...!seismo!umcp-cs!aplvax!eric
