[comp.music] Musical Rehearsal Software

ttl@astroatc.UUCP (Tony Laundrie) (07/14/90)

I want to set up a MIDI system that is tailored for a musical theater rehearsal
environment (and perhaps for performances as well).

The ideal program has the following features:
   - Allows graphical or real-time input of music in standard musical notation
(just like it appears in show scores),
   - Tempo during playback can be continuously adjusted with a slider, or
through synchronization with a conductor's baton,
   - Music can be stopped and started at any measure without hassle,
   - Music can be transposed,
   - Music can be printed out on laser printer and/or dot-matrix printer.
   - Runs on an IBM PC or AT.

Most plain sequencers don't look friendly enough -- "piano roll" notation
is not natural, and random access to measures is clumsy. Am I right here?

I think that Passport's Encore program might be what I need, but the price
looks high. Does anyone have experience with Encore? Does anybody know of
better software that matches my goals? How about "Laser Music Processor" by
TEACH Services? Does anybody know about this program? Thanks. I'll
summarize the results.
