The GCA is particularly interested in promoting the development of powerful standards for the representation of various kinds of documents, including both musical and hyper- media documents. NOTES TO NEW PARTICIPANTS/OBSERVERS: 1. Prospective members and observers are welcome at any time to participate in the current technical work of the committee. (You can be most effective in conveying your viewpoint if you can present it in the context of the current work -- in other words, please be familiar with X3V1.8M/SD-6, SD-7 and SD-8. If you don't have these, they can be obtained for a nominal charge from the X3V1.8M Secretariat.) New participants are also urged to obtain and read ISO 8879 (Standard Generalized Markup Language). I was told of 2 sites where they are available and the documents I have mention some others. In view of this need for info here is what I know. The MuTeX macros are available by anonymous ftp from : sol.cs.ruu.nl (131.211.80.5) pub/TEX/mtex.tar.Z & Mutex_doc.tar.Z (Utrecht) wuarchive.wustl.edu mirrors/msdos/tex/mutex.arc (US somewhere) The documentation I have says it is available from : cs.ubc.ca (128.189.97.5) /pub/src/MuTeX (Canada Brit. Columbia) stolaf.edu (130.71.128.1) /pub (off NSFNet somewhere) Also available to people with JANET access on the Aston TeX server but I don't have the details. Perhaps someone from Aston can enlighten us?? Unfortunately I don't have the disk space free to hold even a compressed form to mail to people who cannot get it via these methods. Although if anyone is desperate I may be able to build one temporarily. I hope this information is of general use. John. To: music-research@prg Message-ID: <51870@robin.cs.nott.ac.uk> Thanks to everyone who responded to my original posting regarding MuTeX documentation. I received a number of replies that either included the document by Francois Jalbert or pointed me to a site that has it. I got it from sol.cs.ruu.nl (Utrecht University, Holland) pub/TEX/Mutex_doc.tar.Z . Another site suggested was wuarchive.wustl.edu : /mirrors/msdos/tex/mutex.arc. One correspondent wondered if a MIDI-file => MuTeX translator existed - Does it? Hope to now get down to some serious MuTeXing. John. As part of my Honours project I am attempting to do the opposite, that is,take an established piece of music (in this case a part of one Mozart's flute sonatas) and try to find a strange attractor which fits the music. I would very much like to get some comments on this ,as I am having trouble finding any literature on it.I would particularly like to hear from anyone who has done this themselves or knows somebody who has done this. Thanx muchly .______________________________________________________________________________. | Greg Lewis | Internet:glewis@spam.ua.oz.au| | Honours Applied Maths | | | Adelaide Uni | | |_______________________________________________|______________________________| ================================================================================ Elric heard Erekose laugh bitterly."Why cannot I - we - ever be faced with a small problem,a domestic problem. Why are we forever involved with the destiny of the universe?"
