My more rational side tells me I don't really need all that hand-
holding, all those cute icons, etc, etc. Give me a decent
keyboard/terminal, and maybe Un*x, and I can do anything I need/want.
Typing commands doesn't bother me.
Not too long ago on systems not too far away:

cardpunch, and maybe an OS, and I can do anything I need/want.
Punching cards doesn't bother me.
I have some stock in a buggy whip industry which you might be interested in...
Seriously, the better your work environment the better your overall efficiency.
Sure we can do amazing things under duress, but, even as a programmer, in the
long run you'll be better off with easier to use systems.
