[net.micro] National's 16k, no good designers?

FISCHER@RUTGERS.ARPA (02/07/84)

From: Ron <FISCHER@RUTGERS.ARPA>

While we are on the topic of problems with bringing the latest generation of
bigga-micros to market, could someone confirm or deny the following
scuttlebutt....

I had heard that the problem at National Semiconductor is: the original design
for the 16032 was done by outside people hired for that project alone. The MMU
and FPU are being done by in-house people and are apparently not yet shipping
due to continuing problems(?)

National does not appear to have any good designers in-house. This does not
bode well for the entire product line. Motorola, although w/o an advanced
software theology, is able to produce advanced chip designs with their own
people.
