[comp.music] Csound on PC or Aatari ST or MAC II...

alfordr@musicbox.EBay.Sun.COM (Ronald Alford) (08/27/90)

I have read about using Csound on the IBM/PC and the Atari ST, but
I have never heard about Csound for the Mac II, and as yet,
I know of no one who is doing this. I assume it is now available
from some source that also supports DSP cards of some sort, or is
part of a package, or perhaps is known as compatible with specific
hardware. Is it availavle with DSP hardware for the MAC II
(DigiDesign perhaps)? Aren't problems with 286 or 386 architecture
(segmented memory) and a limitation of 640k for processing space a
serious drawback? Wouldn't 68000 architecure be more accomodating
since there is no memory segmenting limitations, thus causing a
Csound compile to process slowly during swapping under 286 or 386
rules?

Is this true? Is the package commercially available for both kinds
of architecture? To whom do I
write to get information about this product, and its compatibility
with DSP cards currently available? How much does it cost?

Has anyone any experience with this, or know who to contact?
e-mail me at the above address. I'll appreciate it immensly.

thanks,

ron
