To my (fairly extensive) knowledge, there is no such thing as an SPX-9000. There is an SPX-1000, which is sort of a stereo SPX-900. The SPX-900 is an incredibly flexible unit, and the reverbs in it are not too shabby. (Certainly an order or two of magnitude better than the SPX-90!) If you are going to buy only one effects box, this might be the one. It's handy to have in any studio, just because it does so much. However, if you're primarially looking for a good, natural reverb you might check out some other units (say, a Lexicon LXP-1). I like the SPX reverb for drums and such (where I'm often looking for a more "artifical" sound), but I prefer my DEP-5 for vocals. -cjs ( Curt_Sampson@mindlink.UUCP )

I'm looking for a good reverb/effects box; a friend recommended the Yamaha SPX9000 from a recommendation he once got. I asked around here and the only place in Seattle that seems to carry this stuff (I'm not talking $99 guitar distortion pedals) is American Music. They gave me a leaflet describing the SPX900, but denied that the 9000 existed. I have strong reason to believe that the 9000 does exist, though -- can anyone in netland confirm or deny this? If it exists, I'd really appreciate either a phone number or more details (differences between the 900 and 9000 would suffice)! I'd use it mostly for home recording of flute, vocals, & piano. The reverb time in my apartment is less than ideal :-) FYI: the SPX900 has 50 DSP "programs." Each has from about 10 to 20 parameters you can tweak through the front panel, and two of these you can assign to midi controllers for real-time twiddling. Config load/save is through midi too. The programs are: 13 reverbs, early reflections, delay, lots of modulations, pitch changers, compressor, distortion, limited sampling, a few others, and combination of the above. Rack-mount, mono in/stereo out. About $7..800. Disclaimer: I ain't even seen one of these, let alone played with it or become a satisfied customer. Just thought I'd contribute some info as well as asking for it. Thanks in advance! Camille.

From article <57179@microsoft.UUCP>, by camilleg@microsoft.UUCP (Camille GOUDESEUNE): > I'm looking for a good reverb/effects box; a friend recommended the > Yamaha SPX9000 from a recommendation he once got. ... > They gave me a leaflet describing the SPX900, but denied that the > 9000 existed. I've never heard of SPX9000, but would certainly recommend SPX900 or its bigger brother SPX1000. I've been lead to believe that the difference between the two is that SPX1000 can be used in STEREO (ie, Left and Right hand INPUT channels can be processed independantly) where as this is not the case in SPX900. However, SPX900 does have independant control of its left and right hand OUTPUT channels! I guess SPX1000 = 2 x SPX900 -- this certainly seems to be the case if you compare the prices. (In England, SPX900 = 500pounds while SPX1000 = 900pounds approx.) > I have strong reason to believe that the 9000 does exist, > though -- can anyone in netland confirm or deny this? > If it exists, I'd really appreciate either a phone number or more > details (differences between the 900 and 9000 would suffice)! Me too. Bharat

OK, so the point about the 900/1000 was brought up, and *just in case*, I wanted to make sure that the original poster was aware of the (older) SPX90, and that perhaps the question was in regards to 90 vs. 900, rather than 900 vs. 9000.
