USC is going to be treated to a visit by Apple in one week, and I will have more news then, but my impression is that any academic institution able to satisfy certain condi- tions can join the 'Consortium.' These conditions include something like guar- anteed sales of 1000 machines within 2 (or 3) years, and apparently some kind of software development in return. More details next week...
