[comp.music] Midi Interface & PC's

mikeu@pro-magic.cts.com (Mike Ungerman) (12/01/90)

I am a rank novice when it comes to music and computers, other than I like to
listen to computer generated music and appreciate the talent in others that i
don't have myself.

Anyway, a good friend of mine just purchased a 386sx and his son is fairly
talented with a keyboard (don't know the brand, perhaps Korg?) that has a midi
interface.

He would like to know what suggestions you all have in the way of interface
cards for the PC (Manufacturer, model number, approx price and best source) to
allow him to use the computer as a "sequencer" (?) and what some suggested
software packages are that will allow him to play various tracks on the
keyboard and "write" the music score/play the music score on the
computer/printer.

Sorry if this sounds like a general question that gets asked over and over
again; if all this appears in a known textbook, then direction appreciated.
If this will take up too much bandwith on this feed, then E-mail replies
appreciated rather than a posting on this newsfeed, although I will monitor
the headers for the next couple of weeks for replies.

Thanks in advance.

Mike
