[comp.music] FTP sites for soundblaster software

mcrosby@isis.cs.du.edu (Matthew Crosby) (01/24/91)

Hi!
Does anyone know of any ftp sites that carry any soundblaster software?
Even just demo's or something.

Thanks.

The two best FTP locations are:

ccb.ucsf.edu (128.218.1.13) - mainly .VOC voice samples
sequent.mcs.kent.edu (131.123.2.50) - lot of music and programs

Also, I have heard about kfps-roble6-dynamic.stanford.edu being
a good site - but I have never been able to connect to them.

chyde.uwasa.fi (128.214.12.3) also has a few soundblaster things.

The only one I'M aware of, is 131.123.2.50 in the /pub/SB-ADLIB/prog
directory. I'm trying to find others, especially SB Sampling software
the above ftp has a file called dp25.zip, which is very good, but has alot
of bugs...

P.S. Anyone know hgow to convert DP25 samples to .VOC?

I think that this machine is a PC (disk about 300 Mo) under ka9q, equipped
with an Appletalk-PC card. As on Appletalks IP numbers are dynamically
assigned, the nameservers have a hard task. My nslookup usually provides
several dozens of addresses when in debug mode, then core-dumps :-(.
In normal mode it displays the first possible one, but that address
usually doesn't work.

The manager of the site has provided a way of discovering the current
address by issuing the finger minakami@neon.stanford.edu command. That
usually works.

Instead of those queries about FTP sites with sound/midi/soundblaster/
adlib support, I would really appreciate someone to announce that he
just uploaded there the whole collection of music related files that he
found on his local BBS-es. There are tons of them, but downloading them
to France at about $1.5 to $2 a minute with a 2400 bits/s modem is too
expensive for me.

Wouldn't you?
