Newcomb) Subject: Standard Music Description Language To: wkt%rodos2%ccadfa%manuel@munnari.oz.au Message-ID: <9103020035.AA24272@cmr.uucp> This is in response to your query regarding a music description language in the MRD. Do you know about the ISO effort in this arena, which stems from the work done by the X3V1.8M committee of the American National Standards Institute? If not, I'll try to send you some info about it. Send me your complete address, institution name, title, phone, fax, etc. for my database. Steven R. Newcomb, Associate Director Voice: 904 644 5786 Center for Music Research Fax: 904 644 6100 (CMR) Florida State University R-71 Fax: 904 386 2562 (home) Tallahassee, FL 32306-2098 USA Internet: srn@cmr.fsu.edu P.S. From the information I can send you, you will suppose that Standard Music Description Language is extremely verbose. It can be, but it need not be, thanks to a number of optimizing capabilities inherent in Standard Generalized Markup Language (ISO 8879-1986). However, to use SMDL, you're going to need an SGML parser, which is not an easy thing to find just yet. ------------------------------ End of Music-Research Digest
