[comp.music] Singing

Alvin@cup.portal.com (Alvin Henry White) (04/19/91)

Nobody said the International Singing Computer Conference.

From the beginning of recorded history...

The song of god. The Bhagavad-gita.

The eternal song of the Buddha.

	The psalms of David.

	The Gregorian Chant.

The international computer chess tournament.

Not all the supercomputers on Earth so far, jointly or severally, have been

able to sing so much as "Mary Had A Little Lamb". Something it would take

a few hours to teach nearly any, what, three year old child on earth?

And someone ooo's and ah's about the awesome artificial intelligence of

thinking machines and parallel processors?

I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony.

One of the earliest experiments in sound synthesis at Bell Labs involved a
computer singing "A Bicycle Built for Two." (Remember the HOMAGE to this
in 2001?) At a more substantial level, IRCAM has one that sings "Der Hoelle
Rache."

If you want perfect harmony, you should first learn to stop shooting from the
hip!
