dtate@unix.cis.pitt.edu (David M Tate) wants to know:
>Is anyone out there familiar with Mr. Read's compositions? I had the
>opportunity to sing in the World Premiere of his setting of the famous "love"
>passage from Corinthians ("Though I speak with the tongues of men and angels,
>and have not love, I am become as sounding brass..."), for chorus and organ.
>After some initial antipathy, I found it to be an exciting and intricate work,
>with marvelous subtlety and use of choral technique. Unfortunately, this is
>the only work of his I know.

I have a CD of his organ music. Gardner Read, Works for Organ; Leonard Raver,
organ; Atlantic Brass Quintet; Cassavant Organ at Marsh Chapel Boston
University; Northeastern Records Classical Arts NR 239-CD. I liked a couple
of the pieces (Sinfonia da Chiesa, and I think Suite for Organ), the others
were nice, but nothing special. Caveat: I rarely listen to organ music, so
your mileage could well differ.
