I've recently received a notice about the "Bang on a Can
Festival" in NYC. Among numerous other contemporary and/or
electronic/computer works, on May 17-19 and 22-26 1991,
Dean Drummond's NewBand will perform Harry Partch's "The Wayward"
on HP's orgina acoustic instruments. This is the 'first fully
production" of HP's "Hobo Opera," comprising US Highball, Partch's
musical account of his depression era hobo journey on freight trains
from SF, CA to Chicago, and probably the shorter works "Barstow,"
a musical setting of 8 hitchhiker inscriptions, "San Francisco,"
newsboy cries in the fog, and "The Letter," a message from a hobo friend.
Don't miss this event if you can be in the NYC area! For information,
contact. RAPP Arts Center 220 East 4th Street, NY, NY 10009, (212)
459-4216 or Ticketron (212)-947-5850.
